Melter Costs and Savings by Plant
The figures in the tables referenced below give four options for each plant. The first three, "New Gas Furnace," "Electric Melter," and "Oxy-Gas" call for installation of new equipment. "Oxygen Boosting" and "Electric Boosting" call for modifications to existing melters or forehearths. Electric boosting calls for additional wiring in the forehearth (or cooling) area, between the melter and the cutting and packaging areas.
Expressed in millions over an 8-year span, these figures include inflation estimates. Conversion, or downtime, takes 6-8 weeks. There are no tax credit write-offs.
